Clearing Ryan's Name
My name is Ryan Burgett. On Tuesday, April 14, 2020 I woke up to a flurry of messages. An old friend who I have had blocked for almost two years had decided to come after me over a GoFundMe that I had organized for him in 2017 after he was in a devastating car wreck. Below, you can see what he said.
He continued throughout the day to expand on those accusations.
And later he even included my friend Cam.
I could share much more, including private messages between him and friends who I respect, but this site is not about him, it is about me. I don't expect to change Shawn's mind. If I thought he was a rational person I wouldn't have him blocked on Facebook. But, despite cutting him out of my life, he decided one Tuesday morning years later to make up accusations against me. So, this site is for those friends and randos who come across his words and want to know what really happened. I don't want his false words to hinder my life, business, or ministry. If you are interested, you can find the truth here. I can be a jerk online, I can even pull off a successful troll on rare occasions. But, I have never and would never cheat anyone. His accusations are beyond outrageous and I can prove it.
I have collected private messages, screenshots from my bank and Amazon, and the proof of payment direct from Wells Fargo. Multiple friends were involved in the private conversations I will share, so I have made every effort to protect their privacy and conceal their identities. In the same way, I have concealed my own sensitive information including bank acount numbers and my full address. I have done the same for Shawn. I am in Allentown and he is in San Antonio, but nobody else needs to know our full addresses and phone numbers. The people involved in the private conversations have been given full, unredacted versions of the same conversations listed here so that they can comfirm their veracity if they so desire.
The content is available in two forms. First, there is the chronological view. In the chronological view I have compiled the messages and screenshots in chronological order, splicing the different messages together to show how they played out in real time. Second, there is the conversation view. In the conversation view I present the conversations as unbroken blocks so that you can read through each from beginning to end, one after the other. You can select either option below to skip ahead to whichever view you would like to see.
There are three sets of private messages included. One conversation was named TFL, but I will refer to it as Admins for the sake of clarity. It was a Messenger group between admins and me from a group that Shawn and I were both in. The second conversation was called Turds in a punch bowl (don't ask), but I will refer to it as Friends of Shawn because it was those of us from the Admin group plus another personal friend of Shawn. The third conversation includes the direct messages between Shawn and me, where I explained what was going on, asked how he wanted the money to come, and where he later confirmed to me that he received the check.
It's all right there. This GoFundMe was never my thing. It was our thing. It was a number of friends of Shawn coming together to help out. We raised $541 and after fees (grrrr...) I withdrew $491.41. Of that money, $81.86 went toward gifts from Amazon (which he confirmed receipt of) and $410 went to Shawn as a check. He received the check on September 7, 2017 and then deposited it on September 12. I was very intentional about documenting the process all along the way and today I am more thankful for that than ever.

Also, I think we should donate the rest of the funds to his family after the gifts. I know that it can be a challenge financially when you have a loved on in the hospital

He experienced complications from a blood clot in his lungs last night and had to go back to ICU from the step-down unit he went to during the afternoon. They were already giving him something to prevent this. Please pray that he doesn't develop another one. He has spent the day clearing his upper respiratory area and being sooo uncomfortable from being tied to the bed. He is such a fighter who wants out of the bed so he must be restrained for the time being. He has melted our hearts today by telling us he loved us and responding to the neuro nurse very well. Hopefully, he will have a better night and be stronger tomorrow. Your prayers have been such an encouragement to us .... we are at a loss for words."

He experienced complications from a blood clot in his lungs last night and had to go back to ICU from the step-down unit he went to during the afternoon. They were already giving him something to prevent this. Please pray that he doesn't develop another one. He has spent the day clearing his upper respiratory area and being sooo uncomfortable from being tied to the bed. He is such a fighter who wants out of the bed so he must be restrained for the time being. He has melted our hearts today by telling us he loved us and responding to the neuro nurse very well. Hopefully, he will have a better night and be stronger tomorrow. Your prayers have been such an encouragement to us .... we are at a loss for words."
